Disposables UK Wins Another Business Award

31/08/07: Disposables UK has become the latest winner of the 'Eaton Smith in association with The Mid-Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce' Business of the Month award.

The award, which seeks to recognise the best businesses and organisations in the area, means that the company will now compete for the annual award next Spring.

The following is an extract from the Huddersfield Examiner, Tuesday August 28th, 2007:

Meltham firm leading the paper trail

A company making and distributing disposable paper, washroom and hygiene products has won a business award. Disposables UK Group, based at Meltham, was the latest winner of the Business of the Month Award run by Huddersfield-based law firm Eaton Smith in conjunction with the Aspley-based Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.

Disposables UK, led by directors Trevor and Diane Storer, was formed in 1987, importing soft tissue products from France. By 1992, the firm had cut its French connection, investing in a small converting machine and become independent.

The company negotiated a manufacturing and distribution agreement with USA company Bay West Paper to cover Europe, including Scandinavia. In 1993, Disposables UK moved to its present site in Meltham. The company now operates from four sites and employs more than 100 people. The tissue division, which accounts for about 85% of the group's turnover, has two brands – Bay West and Optimum – the former being exported to several countries.

Disposables UK has its own charity committee, called Kiddiesline, which raises cash for children's charities. The company also provided a location for TV drama series Where the Heart Is – with staff providing background "extras".

Speaking on behalf of the company, marketing manager Emma Wood said: "We are delighted to have won the Business of the Month award, which recognises the hard work of all the team. Our certificate is proudly on display at our head office for staff and visitors to see."
